The Franco-Prussian War Often referred to in France as the 1870 War
19th July 1870 to 10th May 1971 was fought between France and Prussia (
Prussia being supported by the Southern German Sates of Baden, Bavaria and
Wurttemberg and the North German federation. The French total
defeat brought about the Unification of the German states under King William
1st of Prussia and the downfall of Napoleon III .
