This Samurai chess set is based on the political and military situation that existed in Japan in the 16th Century. Toyotomi Hideyoshi is the Daimyo or Great Lord who represents the King, his Okugata as the Queen and Masamune the great Japanese sword maker as the Bishop. The Samurai himself is the loyal Knight and he is aided by the Ninja Pawns.
